Privacy fences, horizontal fences, picket, shadowbox, gates. New wood or grey wood. We use penetrating stains from Expert Stain and Seal and Sherwin-Williams, and stain both sides when that is the job. You get one flat price before we start.

Most fences here are pressure-treated pine or cedar. Both grey fast in our sun and humidity if they are left bare. A penetrating oil stain soaks into the grain and weathers slowly instead of peeling like paint. Plan on a re-stain every 3 to 4 years on most fences, 2 to 6 depending on opacity and sun. For a quote, send the form or call. If the wood has already greyed, the wash is in the quote, not sprung on you later.

  • Wash for greyed or aged wood before any stain goes on
  • Premium oil-based penetrating stains
  • Moisture-meter check at every estimate
  • Flat-rate quote in writing before we start

How it goes

Three steps. None skipped.

  1. 01

    We look at the wood

We walk the fence, measure it, and check moisture. Oil-based stain needs wood under 13% moisture, so we tell you if it needs to dry first.

  2. 02

We wash it if it needs it

Grey, dirty, or moldy wood gets washed and dries before stain. Stain over dirt does not last, so we do not skip this step.

  3. 03

    We stain it evenly

Penetrating stain, sprayed and back-brushed for even coverage with no drips or missed spots. The color you picked, the whole fence.

Superior Stain Solutions did a fabulous job including pressure washing our 2 covered porches days before applying the stain several days later. They completed both porches in one day that included removing the gutters in the process. I love the color I selected as shown with the before and after photos. I highly recommend them if you have a fence, deck or a porch project needing professionals!

Adrian, Preston, and the team had by far exceeding my expectation. My wooden deck and stair need restoration and stain. It was definitely the right decision to hired this team. The quote was very fast, detail, and professional. Communication was the best I have ever experienced. Will definitely hire Superior Stain Solutions again for any future painting or staining project.

Adrian and Preston did a great job. I usually do my own painting because it is difficult to find painters that can paint to my standards. I was in a time crunch and needed help preparing my father-in-law’s house to sale. So happy I chose Superior Stain Solutions.

Jolanta G.

Adrian did an excellent job painting the inside of my condo. They painted all of the walls, ceilings, and trim. I wanted to add some color in the dining room, so they referred a local mural artist. They were polite, showed up on time, and worked efficiently. I definitely recommend them!

Adrian visited our property several times before staining our new privacy fence, making sure the moisture content was appropriate for staining. He provided us with a professional assessment and quote.

Questions

Before you book.

Anything not covered here, call or text 864-800-8275.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. We are SC licensed and carry liability insurance. A certificate of insurance is available on request. License RBS 66117.

How often should I stain my fence?

In Greenville, Spartanburg, Greer, and Duncan we usually recommend every 3 to 4 years. It depends on the stain, the sun, and the wood. Some finishes run 2 to 6 years.

What is the best time of year to stain a fence?

Spring and fall, with moderate temperatures (about 50 to 85°F) and lower humidity. We follow the stain maker’s temperature range. We also stain in cooler weather with oil-based products when the wood is ready.

How long does fence stain take to dry?

In the Upstate, most stains dry and cure in 24 to 48 hours. Oil-based takes longer than water-based. Leave it alone while it cures.

Should I stain or paint my fence?

For most wood fences here, oil-based stain is the better call. It soaks in instead of sitting as a film, so it is less likely to peel and crack in our sun and humidity.

Do I need to clean my fence before staining?

If it has started to grey, weather, or mold, yes. We soft-wash aged wood before stain so the finish lasts. The wash is in the quote, not sprung on you later.

How long should I wait to stain a new fence?

Stain as soon as the moisture is right. After mill oils dry out, wood starts to crack, twist, grey, and mold. We check with a moisture meter. Below 13% is ready for oil-based stain.

How much does it cost to stain a fence?

It depends on length, height, whether we stain one side or both, the condition of the wood, and access to water and power. Rather than guess at a range, we look at your fence and give you one flat number in writing. Estimates are free.
